This winter, I’ve got a little experiment cooking in the garden—I’m trying winter sowing.
Winter sowing means planting seeds outside in winter so cold weather helps them sprout naturally in spring, with very little effort or cost.
Many native plants in the Northeast need a cold “stratification” period before they can germinate—basically, they won’t sprout until winter gives them the green light.
